Ten Suggestions to Keep in Mind When Talking to Your Kids About Tragedy

 

  •  Be open and honest.
  •  Encourage them to talk about their feelings and concerns.
  •  Lead by example.
  •  Reinforce safety and security.
  •  During times when your kids talk to you with out much hesitation use that opportunity to talk to them then.
  •  Don’t need to go into detail.
  •  Ask open-ended questions.
  •  Listen to what they tell you they need.
  •  Be aware of how you are feeling and don’t expect them to feel the same.
  •  After the incident watch for major changes in behavior.
